Sylvie Degiez is a pianist, composer and educator who lives in New York city. She has created and directed multiple performances that integrates music with words and visuals such as multimedia operas, voice recitals, music & words videos, poetry readings with music. She teaches music @ The Young Composer Workshop, a program in it's 3rd decade she created for young people. Some collaborators have been Rashied Ali, Perry Robinson, Gloria Topp, Steve Swell, Bob Meyer, Ken Little Hawk, Sarah Pillow, Marc Wagnon, Michael Hashim, Angela Babin, Biggi Vinkeloe, Wayne Lopes, Lisa Kovalic. A conceptual composer, Sylvie Degiez writes performances pieces for a variety of situations, including for theGift of Eagle Orchestra with guitarists Wayne Lopes and Van Manakas, the Cosmic Legends series at the Kitchen, an opera "Venus" in Goteburg, Sweden with Biggi Vinkeloe. She directed an inside-out interpretation of 4'33'' at the John Cage's memorial in Central Park Summer Stage for an ensemble of 30 performers. Her compositions for ballet include Women's feet for Daphne Rosenblum, Nagual with swiss dancer/choreographer Zoe Reverdin, "Unveiling the Lovers" in the Laba festival, Cabaret Muse Me with Gul Kozacıoglu a live - web performance happening simultaneously in Turkey and in NYC, more recently "Stardust" in collaboration with Michael Kiaer. She has collaborated on musical theater projects in Switzerland with director Pierre Dubey. Her theater project "Cosmic Brew" is a game-play to expose participant to the link between music/math/physics (The Metropolitan Playhouse in NYC). She has been a frequent guest artist at the MAKOR/92ndStreetY residency program directed by Anat Litwin. She hosted The Moon Saloon and CHRONOCOSMOS, evenings of poetry and improvisation at 92YTRIBECA. Collaboration in multimedia with artists and poets includes many projects with poet/photographer Ira Cohen, with Michael Hashim at BAM, performances for the Woodstock film festival, StJohn church (NYC) with artist Ford Crull, musical readings with Taylor Mead, Judith Malina, Janine Pommy Vega, Steve Delachinsky, Andy Clausen, Pamela Twinings and an ongoing multi disciplinary project at the PlatteClove gallery in upstate NY.
